Report on two day Workshop on ‘Plant identification, Herbarium methodology and Nomenclature’ at University Dept. of Botany, SKMU, Dumka, Jharkhand
BSI EIACP PC-RP on Biodiversity (Flora) is organised a two day Workshop on ‘Plant identification, Herbarium methodology and Nomenclature’ at University Dept. of Botany, Sido Kanhu Murmu University, Dumka, Jharkhand on 10th & 11th March 2025. PG/UG students of Botany of S.P. College, Dumka, S.P. Mahila College, Dumka, Deoghar College, Deoghar, B.J. Azad College, Kundahit, Sahibganj College, Sahibganj, Godda College, Godda, K.K.M. College, Pakur, M.G. College, Ranishwar, VB University, Hazaribagh and SKM University, Dumka were participated in this workshop. MissionLiFE themes were discussed and MissionLiFE leaflets were distributed. MissionLiFE pledge is also taken. The inauguration program was graced by presence of Prof. (Dr.) Bimal Prasad Singh, Vice-Chancellor, SKMU, Dumka, Dr. J.S. Jalal, Scientist ‘E’ & Coordinator, EIACP PC-RP on Biodiversity (Flora), Botanical Survey of India, Dr. J. Jayanthi, Scientist ‘F’, Hqrs., BSI, resource persons from BSI and dignitaries. Dr. J. Jayanthi was delivered on the morphological identification of selected plant families, Conservation, Hotspots, Keystone species, Carnivorous plants, Saprophytic plants, Ramsar sites and CBD. Dr. Gopal Krishna, Scientist ‘C’, Hqrs., BSI on identification of plants families who channelize the pool of immense knowledge based on diversity and classification of plants collected through all over India. Dr. J.S. Jalal delivered a lecture on family Orchidaceae in Bihar & Jharkhand. Talk on Herbarium Methodology was delivered by Dr. Shyam Biswa, Botanical Asst., CNH, BSI which was followed by a practical session on Hands on training on Herbarium preparation by Dr. Soumen Gantait, Programme Officer, BSI EIACP PC-RP and Yasaswinee Rout, JFR, BSI. Dr. Gopal Krishna gives a talk on Basics of Botanical Nomenclature. The Valedictory Function was chaired by Mr. B.N. Thakur, Chief Guest of valedictory session. After that student were presented with Certificates. At the end Dr. S. L. Bondya, Head & Organizing Secretary of this workshop delivered the report of the workshop which followed by vote of thanks presented by Dr. Neeraj Baskey, Assistant Professor, University Department of Botany, SKMU, Dumka. Total 193 participants (22 faculty members, 18 research scholars and 153 PG & UG student) of 10 different University and colleges of Jharkhand were participated in this workshop.
