REPORT OFINTERNATIONAL DAY FOR BIODIVERSITY 2025
On the occasion of ‘International Day for Biodiversity 2025’, BSI EIACP PC-RP, Central National Herbarium (CNH), Central Botanical Laboratory (CBL), and Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden, Botanical Survey of India, Howrah, jointly celebrated the day on 22nd May 2025 at the CNH Auditorium, B. Garden, Howrah. The event was aimed to raise awareness about the significance of biodiversity and sustainable development. On this occasion, Dr. A.A. Mao, Director, BSI; Dr. Pratibha Gupta, Scientist ‘F’, CBL; Dr. Jeewan Singh Jalal, Scientist ‘E’ & Coordinator, BSI EIACP; and Dr. Chaya Deori, Scientist ‘E’ & In-charge, CNH, BSI, delivered insightful lectures on the importance of the day. Dr. Mao in his lecture highlighted that biodiversity represents the greatest economic wealth of Mother Earth. A special invited lecture was delivered by Swami Kamalasthananda Ji Maharaj, Principal, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College, Rahara, Kolkata, on the theme “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development”. In his talk Swami Ji emphasized the importance of living in harmony with the natural world and pursuing sustainable practices to ensure a balanced ecosystem. Following the lectures, a Biodiversity Quiz Competition was organized. Prizes were distributed among the quiz winners. A total of 173 participants took part in the event.
